On November 5, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and held cordial talks with Yang Zhenbin, Secretary of the CPC SJTU Committee. Vice President Liu Weidong and Standing Committee Member of the CPC Committee and Minister of the Publicity Department Yu Chaoyang also attended the meeting.

Yang Zhenbin extended a warm welcome to the Malaysian delegation. He noted that Shanghai Jiao Tong University has been actively promoting exchanges and cooperation with Malaysia and expressed the university’s willingness to strengthen collaboration with Malaysian universities and research institutions. He emphasized joint efforts to carry out cutting-edge research, address global challenges, and warmly welcomed more outstanding Malaysian students to study at SJTU.

Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid expressed his great honor in visiting Shanghai Jiao Tong University, a top-tier university in China and a world-renowned institution. He highlighted the significance of signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and SJTU, which aims to foster cooperation in academic development, scientific research, and capacity building for faculty and students. He stressed that this partnership will not only enhance student exchange and research collaboration but also strengthen the lasting friendship and partnership between Malaysia and China.
In the presence of Yang Zhenbin, Liu Weidong, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid, and Dato’ Wira Asri Wajdi Dusuki from MARA, Yu Chaoyang and MARA Deputy Director Maisatu Akma Mohamad signed the MoU.

Yang Zhenbin presented Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid with a traditional Chinese painting of purple ink peonies by renowned artist and SJTU Professor Zhan Renzuo.

During the visit, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid and Yang Zhenbin also met with outstanding Malaysian students studying at SJTU, engaging in warm conversations and expressing care and high expectations for them.
Officials from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Antai College of Economics and Management, School of Humanities, School of International and Public Affairs, School of Agriculture and Biology, School of Environmental Science and Engineering, and the Student Affairs Steering Committee attended the event.
